What is handpoint payments?
handpoint payments consists of three principle elements – 1. An interface between a custom application (mobile POS for example) – This interface is called handpoint hEFT – 2. An EFT Client which performs the EFT transaction processing and encryption before sending onward – 3. A payment Bureau which receives the encrypted EFT transaction, decrypts it and processes it to the Acquirer.
What do I need to get started with mobile payments?

handpoint provides a powerful PC / Server based interface application called interlink which can be used to manipulate and process data coming from a handpoint mobile application and present it to any Back office system.

handpoint currently provides a standard mobile application interface to Microsoft Navision for both Stock Management and Hospitality POS solutions as well as a Microsoft Excel interface – In addition, bespoke interfaces have been created for SAP and SAGE and other bespoke interfaces can be created in conjunction with business partners and integrators.
How fast is a mobile credit card transaction?
Unlike a fixed till or Payment Entry device (PED) installation there are a lot of factors outside the control of a mobile solutions provider which directly affect the speed of processing an EFT transaction – The following can all be factors in a mobile EFT transaction – GPRS Sim card type – Weather – Mobile Data service provider infrastructure – WiFi – Internet infrastructure latency.
Why do some credit cards get declined?
There are a lot of factors that govern how an EFT transaction gets processed – There are limits set within the payment solution to allow for transactions to be authorised ‘offline’ under certain conditions – Individual card type’s can be set to always go ‘online’ for authorisation whic would cause a transaction to decline if the device is ‘offline’ at the time – A floor limit can be set, above which a transaction ‘must’ go ‘online’ for authorisation – A individual card type stand-in limit can be set, above which a transaction which although below the global floor limit is above the particular card type stand-in limit and would force the transaction to attempt to go ‘online’ for authorisation – If the card is an EMV card (Chip and Pin type of card) then certain parameters are stored within the particular chip which change with every transaction and can force the card to attempt to go ‘online’ at certain times for authorisations – Risk and fraud perameters set within the card issuer’s system can cause a transaction to be declined ‘online’.
How do I log a problem with my handpoint software?
In the first instance send an e-mail to support@handpoint.com giving as much detail about the problem as possible – Include information relating to the type of handpoint application, the version of retail 5 if known and include details of the device type, processor, Operating System, RAM and display resolution if display related – Also indicate if the problem is affecting one or more devices.
How do I support my handpoint applications when they're deployed in the field?
handpoint don’t provide a device management application as there are numerous suppliers of software that perform this function and handpoint suggest contacting one to seek advice on how best to support your particular devices within your specific environment.
When do transactions get settled?
Transactions are settled by the Acquirer once the settlement (clearing) file is submitted from the Bureau – This occurs once per day approximately 01:00 GMT depending upon the Acquirer.
Can I take debit cards by using handpoint payments?
Yes – Debit cards branded or co-branded by Visa or Mastercard can be taken – Local debit cards which are not co-branded with Visa or Mastercard will require a Bureau integration to the card Acquiring service.
Do I have to use the handpoint mobile POS (mPOS) application if I'm using handpoint payments?
No – handpoint payments and handpoint mPOS are separate applications – handpoint payments can be integrated with any third party application allowing for a quick and easy way to add EFT payments.
